Picture day is Saturday March 19 in the High School Gym at 9:30.  Arrive around 9:15.

Track and Field will start on Monday March 7th for Varsity.

Practice will be at Bangor Park starting at 3:05 and will end at 5:00 If we have to be at the High School practice will be from 2:30 till 4:00.

There will be a bus shuttle for anyone who needs transportation to the park.  It will pick up outside of the gym around 2:30.  

Dress for the weather. Have sweat pants and sweat shirts.

Team Policies and Rules

 

  1. All athletes must abide by school policies and regulations.  Failure to do so can result in suspension from practice, a meet, or the team.  These policies include, but are not limited to:
    1. School drug, alcohol and smoking policy set forth by the school.  This will strictly be enforced by the school and head coaches.
    2. Academic eligibility and suspension:  Weekly and marking period ineligibility lists will be used to determine who may participate.
    3. Disciplinary policies:  You must attend detentions, in school/out of school suspensions.  Athletes that are suspended the day of a meet or practice are ineligible for that meet or practice.
    4. Slater Student-Athletic Handbook: Please read and become familiar with the policies.
    5. MVA and MIA Award will be determined according to criteria established by the head coaches.  The Head Coaches makes all final decisions.

            Any disciplinary actions or instructions issued by a coach are to be adhered to without question. Any violation of this policy or disrespect shown to a coach will result in IMMEDIATE EXPULSION from the team.

 

  1. Dismissal from practice or meets is by Head Coaches only.

 

  1. Practice begins at 3:05 PM. (unless otherwise announced). DO NOT BE LATE! You must be picked up no later than 20 minutes from the time practice ends. Where practice is being held will also be announced daily. Lateness without a legitimate excuse will not be tolerated. (Teachers passes or doctor notes are acceptable reasons). Practice is important and should not be missed. Missed practices and latenesses can result in suspension from a meet or expulsion from the team. If you are suspended from school, or on academic suspension, see your coach prior to the suspension for an, on your own, workout. Practice is schedule everyday school is in session. Canceled practices will be announced. Make sure it states TRACK. Extra or optional practices will also be announced.

 

  1.  All athletes are to report to the team warm-up and stretch session prior to each practice or meet. All athletes are to participate in all scheduled drills and exercises. Headphones, cell phones, I-pods and jewelry are not to be out during practices or meets.  PIAA has put in a rule that these devices are not permitted in the playing areaAthletes will be ejected from the meet if you are caught with them. Horseplay will not be tolerated. Attendance is taken at this time.

 

  1. Late arrivals to school should not occur during the season. Late arrivals must be in school by 8:15 am to participate in practice or a meet. Exceptions are only with a medical excuse from a doctor or preapproved reason (i.e. College visitation day).  * Unexcused late arrivals on meet days will result in forfeiture of points earned during the meet*

 

  1. Meet Days: Report to team warm-up and pay attention to coaches as they announce line-ups. You are responsible to respond to calls and report to your event. Failing to do so can result in forfeiture or all previously earned points, suspension from the meet, suspension from the next meet, or expulsion from the team. Withdrawing from an event you are scheduled for is a Coach’s decision and which is approved by the Head Coaches.  All athletes are to remain in uniform during the entire meet and to remain in attendance.  You may not leave the meet early.  If you are caught leaving you will be suspended from the next meet or expulsion from the team.  During the last event (1600m relay) all non-participants are to be seated together in the stands.  Proper conduct and good sportsmanship are the rules during the meets and practice.  Show support and respect to your teammates and your competition.  There are PIAA rules for unsprotsmanship conduct during meets, but this kind of behavior during meets or practice, can result in expulsion from the team.  Winning deserves celebration and losing deserves reflection.  Coaches expect conduct and actions of the athletes to conform to the meet results.  This policy is important to remember on the bus ride home from an away meet.  Any misconduct on the bus ride to or from the meet will result in expulsion from the team.

 

  1. Anyone caught stealing will be expelled from the team, turned over to school authorities, and forfeits all varsity and team awards.

 

  1. In the event of a League Championship, Varsity letter winners only will be awarded any team awards.  This is school policy!

 

  1. Varsity letters will be awarded according to the following criteria:
    1. Adherence to all team policies and rules.
    2. Displays team spirit and respect for teammates and coaches.
    3. Adherence to all school policies and rules.
    4. Participation in Varsity track meet and earning points according to the following scale: (this scale is subject to change during the season).

Freshman – 6 points

Sophomore – 10 points

Juniors – 14 points

Seniors – 18points

                        Also, letter can be awarded for:

    1. Active participation and eligibility for 4 successive years.
    2. Special consideration for outstanding contribution to the team as deemed by the coaches and with the approval of the Athletic Director.
    3. No one will receive any awards unless you have your uniform turned in.
    4. Attending all practices and giving your best effort at all times.

 

  1. Any announcements concerning team rules, scheduled practices and meet times and places, etc. will be announced in the team meeting or on the board in the locker rooms.  It is your responsibility to pay attention to all announcements.

 

  1. The day of the last scheduled meet (once the meet is over) you will place your uniform in a plastic bag with your name somewhere on the bag.  You will then give it to your event coach for your name to be checked off. Also you will not receive any team awards until your uniform is turned in.  You are responsible to keep your uniform in the best condition.
